Bamboo Palm – Known for its good luck properties, it also offers more scientific benefits such as adding moisture to the air. A natural humidifier, it’s the perfect solution to stuffy office spaces where dried-out noses and throats are common. It’s available in a 10-inch grow pot for three feet, or a 14-inch grow pot for five feet and up.

The Bamboo Palm’s rich, green leaves add a tropical look to any space and can tolerate lower-light levels better than most palms. But for best results, find an area with filtered, natural light or bright, fluorescent light. Its soil moisture should remain damp, but be careful of overwatering. Yellowing and dropping leaves means it’s getting too much.

Pruning usually just requires pulling the yellowed, older leaves at the bottom of the plant. If a stem gets out of line and needs to be pruned, do it at the base; never cut a stem in half, or you won’t see any new growth there.

The Bamboo Palm needs a little extra care when it comes to cleaning and bugs. For the former, a feather duster can be a good accompaniment to a solution of water and light soap. And for bugs (especially mealybugs and mites), a spray bottle with light soap and water, administered daily, should take care of the problem.

I know what you are thinking, how can a plant protect me? However, you have not have met the Mother-In-Law’s Tongue. Also known as the Snake Plant, these guys do more for you than you do for them. 

 Where to place snake plants in Feng Shui? Your bedroom. Like the ZZ plant, the leaves on snake plants grow straight up, which, coupled with their pointy tips on these long sword-like leaves, create the ultimate protective energy for your personal space. These properties are sometimes mistaken for “bad Feng Shui plants,” however they are just the opposite – these pokey protectors shield your energy from harm and negativity. 

Like your child or pet, you do not want to let your plant around just anyone; it is harmful to you and your Sansevieria when they pick up on so many individuals’ energy, which is another reason your snake plant benefits in bedroom settings. Snake plants do best in dry soil and can survive in any light; there is no need to worry if your bedroom is not the sunniest spot in your house! That being said, here is your reminder that you want to allow this guy to dry out in-between watering sessions. They are native to the South Asian and African regions, so they are pretty used to dry atmospheres, which is why we only recommend wetting your snake plant approximately once a month.

Going back to the NASA Clean Air Study we touched on earlier; Sansevieria was one of the few indoor plants studied that removed four out of the five organic pollutants that were introduced in a controlled environment. 

 This sleek, stiff bodyguard is sure to protect your energy, your home, and even cleanse the air around you, as long as you place this plant with intention in a low traffic area of your home. 

 

 

The MARVELOUS Monstera

 Fame and Fortune, what more could you want? The Monstera deliciosa radiates a powerful vibe that is healthy for the energy of your home. A jack of all trades, this monster can purify, protect, and charge your living space with positive Chi (don’t forget, that means Life Energy). The Funky Foliage Monstera’s showcase is an indicator of Good Fortune, and a big reason is that she is linked to Li, the Fame, and the Recognition Bagua area. Her massive round leaves grow upward, which attracts favorable energies to your space and keeps them there, all while warding off evil. On top of all of that, the Split Leaf Philodendron is another natural air filter with several air purifying properties. Monstera’s do best in medium to bright light; sunlight from south and east and west-facing windows are recommended, but for the sake of its fundamental properties, try to keep it facing south or east. 

Also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant, Monstera leaves have holes that allow them to go with the flow and stay in control of the vibe of the room it resides in! This plant is said to go hand and hand with the wood element for its growth. Placement and positioning of your Monstera are going to impact the gifts she is going to bring you! 

Generally, the wood element aligns with the Bagua energy map best when placed in the most southern-eastern part of the home. However, first, think about the area of your life you are seeking balance in. Do you simply want to protect the energy of your home? Are you hoping for money? As you may have been able to guess, the Bamboo palm, like most plants, is associated with the wood element. The coastal aesthetic is known to be breezy and easy, a design that gives off a light and airy vibe. Another option and a low-maintenance plant option at that is the Giganta Plant. This plant is very similar to the Ag because it has a dark green color and a lighter colored pattern on its leaves. Other than that, though, these two plant friends could not be any more different! The difference in colors is the silver in Aglonemas verse the yellow of the Giganta Plant. Color is the Key 

Now it is time to revisit the color factor. The green is your pop of color, but what if you are really trying to keep everything super neutral and want your pop of color elsewhere? There are lighter colored plants that you can look into that might be a better fit. Try out a Marginata Kiwi. This plant has yellower leaves, resembling a shade closer to beige than being a green and making everything a tad more neutral. The Marge – its nickname – also has such a unique leaf shape bringing some different dynamics into play that we have not seen yet in the other coastal plant picks. This plant requires moderate to high light, which is perfect since you will be needing lots of light to create your beachy seaside dreams anyways. We think the Marginata Kiwi is the perfect pick if you do not want to add too many saturated colors into your home. Now that we have talked about some lighting issues within the design style, let’s talk about texture. The texture is a big part of the coastal design. Costal and beachy go hand in hand; you have the sand and the waves, salt and the sun, light linens, and soft towels at the beach. Now take those textures and translate them into different décor elements. One plant that we really translate into the softness of beach towels, but shows the waves’ curve, is a White Bird of Paradise. The White Bird embraces a sleek look but still feels minimalistic and soft. It is larger than life and really stands out in the crowd. This texture is genuinely smooth and light to the touch, making you feel at peace and relaxed in your new beach home—a true ode to the beachy nostalgia of family vacations from the past. Then add in a hint of modernism, and you have created a style uniquely geared towards you that not many will have seen before.

Well, if we start by defining biophilia, that meaning would be “a human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature.” Here at PLANTZ we translate that to mean bringing the living nature from outside, indoors. What is an example of non-human living things and nature… PLANTS! Now add the word design to the definition, and you get – the human love of nature brought into a design movement within workplaces and homes, to provide a sense of calm while promoting a healthier lifestyle and more productivity in the environment. With that piece of clarity, we want to discuss the Biophilic Design and how you can implement it into your workspace specifically, whether you work from home. If it is an at-home office, or if you are an employer trying to make a better environment for your employees, either of these options can implement the Biophilic Design style and change the whole landscape of their space.

 

Workspace Plant Benefits 

Plants in the office have a multitude of benefits. Studies have shown that plants can significantly affect your employees’ well-being and foster an environment where there is 37% less tension and a decrease of anxiety than other office spaces that do not have plants around.

Here we are, back again with a new interior design style for you, and this one is a more mainstream one… Farmhouse, or also called Rustic interior design! We see this style often, but have you tried to execute it yet in your home? This design is all about clean crisp white walls and wood paneling. Think the distressed wood look in more aspects than just the way of flooring. This is a great interior design style for the individual who is a fan of the industrial style but wants it to feel just a tad more homey and less ridged. Rustic interior design is best categorized as an eco-conscious with a country or cabin vibe twisted in. Think back to the classic or cliché cabin in the mountains feel.

Some elements it shares with the industrial design include the warehouse look and elements of openness and raw materials such as exposed brick, wood, metal, and other vintage aspects like unique light fixtures and novelty décor that you would not see throughout the typical modern or bohemian design styles.

 

The “It” Plant

The farmhouse style is very popular right now in the average household across the United States of America, so what better plant pair for the design than a very mainstream Fiddle Leaf Fig, which has also taken the states by storm. This plant is EVERYWHERE and is a crucial aspect of the farmhouse design. This plant is picture-perfect, you will find yourself obsessing over your new photogenic plant and we cannot wait to see all of the home design pictures you will take with the Fiddle Leaf in it (don’t forget to tag us in them). Botanically known as Ficus lyrata, it can be found in tree form or bush form, both will rock the socks off your living room, bedroom, or any room for that matter. This “it” plant is a trendy touch to the space, that can soften out the vintage woody feel. Rustic design, although it has a tendency to utilize harsh materials, it also has a dedication to the importance of a softer touch that can be brought in through a multitude of ways. Soft and texturized rugs, specialty throw pillows, and fuzzy blankets can bring that more delicate side back into the room, which is what really differentiates it from other designs such as industrial or modern, making it uniquely farmhouse.

Here are some things you need to know about the Fiddle Leaf Fig before you bring it into your rustic new home. This fig comes in three different sizes and two styles. Tree and bush form are the ways this plant can be delivered to you. You have probably more often seen the tree form, but do not overlook the bush form, it can bring a lot of volume and texture to any room. Other Aspects to Add

How else can you build on your newfound rustic interior design? How about plant stands! We have terrific wood plant stands that can bring back in the wood material throughout your décor, while still making your space simplistic and not overcluttered. Try staggering you plants all in one area of the room, creating a jungle corner with varying heights.

Another classic of the farmhouse style is the wicker material. Wicker baskets often sit at the base of every couch filled with blankets and pillows or adorn bookshelves storing items so create a cleaner less cluttered environment. Think vintage during the creation process when implementing this design style. This can be in décor and in your furniture. Also, think vintage walls, stone, and brick are commonly seen, anything that creates a mini oasis that feels warm and fuzzy but like an escape. Natural colors are also a big aspect of the farmhouse look. When picking planters and plant stands choose muddled browns, creams, whites, nudes, and grays to really drive home the farmhouse experience. These natural elements really help contrast the roughness of your exposed elements such as rough wood, brick, or metals. When it comes to natural colors, you can rely on shades of green as well! This is great news when it comes to your plants because commonly plants are GREEN! Try out some greenery such as the Aglaonema which has a variety of options and unique patterns that can add some dimension to your home – so, not just the typical green.

The Aglaonema comes in a variety of variations with green and silvery gray coloring, so you are still keeping the neutrals desired in this home design. If you want a more green centered Aglaonema then try out the Mary Ann and Stripes since these patterns are a tad more green-based, but still have some silver and gray notes even though they are predominantly green! Another green friend to include in your home is the Rhapis Palm. This plant is nicknamed the Lady Palm and grows leaves from textured woody stems. This brings even more of a wood element into your rustic home. This plant will last you a long time, but it is also for a patient plant owner, seeing as it takes it years to be fully grown. If you have the patience to wait on this beautiful plant, we promise it will be well worth it. Full of unique shaped leaves and a deep green color, it portrays a high level of elegance and grace, not a bad fit for the farmhouse interior design. The farmhouse style is a happy marriage between natural elements and the harsher design materials. The plants you keep will really help you draw that line. Add to your space with a variety of texture not a variety of items. Focus on plants with unique leaf shapes and ones that create a textured look. This will surely create a lovely atmosphere of antique and rustic while still bringing something living into the environment.
