Safe Delivery!

Never in my entire life did I ever think that houseplants could be purchased online and arrive safety at its destination across the country.  I spent weeks searching in Nevada for a nursery with great looking houseplants.  I was unsuccessful.  Then I discovered your website OMG!  In the 40 years that I have had houseplants, I never purchased them online.  I took a chance because I was desperate for great looking houseplants.  I submitted my order and in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to lose my money.  Shipping houseplants online and shipping them cross country is a receipt for disaster.  While I was waiting for my plants, I followed the instructions on your website and looked at your YouTube videos.  You fully prepared me to receive my plants, get them out of the box, have a tarp ready and place them in a new home.  They are beautiful, look healthy and vibrant.  Some of the leaves had to be cut or trimmed but you fully prepared me on how to handle the situation. You also said that you suggested 2 people but I live alone and had to struggle a little.  I do have one recommendation.

RECOMMENDATION:  The plants are very heavy.  I live alone and on the second floor because my garage is on the first floor.  I had to get the plants from the front door to the second floor.  Luckily I had a dolly that helped me drag them up the stairs.  It was very hard because of the weight of the plants.  Without the dolly it was going to be an impossible task for one person to get the plants to the second floor.  I was not prepared to receive such heavy plants.  I think you should not assume that everyone lives on the first floor, especially if they are in a condo or townhouse where most in Nevada sit on top of garages.  I suggest to tell people to have a dolly ready if the plants are going to have to be taken to a second floor. – Maria Sanchez

Maria! Thank you so much for the recommendation, this is certainly something everyone should consider when ordering plants! Also love to hear that we were able to deliver to you when you did not even realize that was an option!! Yes friends we can deliver to you ANYWHERE in the United States!! Keep us posted on your plants progress Maria and thanks for sharing!

Six Plant Babies?!

Sorry I’m so late to send these.  Below are photos of our six babies.  All are well and bringing joy to our lives!  One Kentia Palm is flourishing more than the other, but it is also likely getting more sun.  Should I water the other one a little less?  No issues with it at all, in case that was unclear! 🙂

Hope you are well and thanks, again, to you and your team for everything!!! – Hanna Chandoo, Cerritos, CA

Hanna! Thanks so much for keeping us in the loop and updating us! Your babies are looking stunning. Please never hesitate to reach out with more questions and more pictures (because we LOVE to see them).

The Art Deco PLANTZ

Art Deco is not as commonly known by the average joe when it comes to interior design, but it is a truly intriguing design style to say the least. Art Deco is a true nod to the Roaring Twenties. Think Great Gatsby extravagance with a slightly more modern twist. A specific definition of the Art Deco design is the period of time between the two world wars, being a time in history that was characterized by technological advances and a high importance to self-expression and individuality. There truly are not many rules to this style but to Go Big or Go Home.

Color Coordination

So, what are the elements needed to accomplish the bold Art Deco look that will have all of your guests in awe of your design abilities… COLOR COLOR COLOR. Be bold and do not shy away from color. Color is one of the most important aspects of Art Deco because it is a way to truly express oneself. The options are honestly endless, the trick though is to limit color to three or four different shades and from there incorporate them into your design. What better way to add color than with plants! Lucky for you PLANTZ is not limited to your stereotypical green plants, the green variations are endless, and we even have a pink plant, the Dracaena Marginata Colorama for the truly bold individuals seeking out the Art Deco elements. Try out this pinkish plant and then add in other colors through varying décor to really elevate your Art Deco vibe to the next level.

Another thing you can consider is adding your color into the home via planters! Getting a bold colored pot can really add to that next level of color to spice up the room. Use this as an opportunity to have your pot contrast your plant. If your plant is a dark green color, pick something that contrasts that while still looking elegant. This will give you the true Roaring Twenties feeling.

Shapes

The next thing commonly overlooked that you should consider is shape within the room. The shape of furniture, décor, and your plants can really attribute to the vibe of this style. An elegant shape is the name of the game, so elegant can also attribute sometimes to that classic feeling. If you are looking to go the classic route, our suggestion would be an Areca Palm. A distinguishable, yet timeless plant that will standout while still being commonly recognizable and something nostalgic and familiar!

Another option if you want to be a tad more individualistic is the ZZ Plant. The ZZ Plant also known as Zamioculas zamiifolia, has a very unique shape that differs greatly from the Areca Palm. This plant will certainly get your guest asking about it and inquiring what type of plant it is. What is great about the ZZ Plant too, it is very low maintenance. It has much less of a need for water, light, and human attention than some of our other plants require, so if you are new to the plant world, or just too much of a busy bee for the responsibility, this guy is for you.  The ZZ Plant has long leaves that produce leaflets that are thick and shiny and can resemble certain holly leaves, so this one sure is unique and screams Art Deco aesthetics.

The next to thing about with shape is your planter shape. What will make a unique impression and standout? There are so many ways to go about this but when it comes to shape you have some blatant options… Sharp edges or rounded. For the softer art deco vibe, might we suggest a Strong Clay Cylinder planter. This planter although rounded off has a strong presence in a room due to the material it is and the variety of colors you can get the planter in. The clay stone is sure to make a bold statement when it comes to planter choices and material is a real upside in this scenario.

Another option is harsher edges with a stronger presence. Any square planter will make a statement of authority and traditional with its sharp edges and sleek design. This is another instance where you can play with different styles and colors as well as long as you have those stark edges.

Oversizing the Style

The final thing to discus when it comes to Art Deco is oversized pieces. Embrace the retro vibe with some larger pieces to accent your design. Bring in the largest plants you can find. Consider a Rhapis Palm to fill space in a room and make everything appear grander. When we think Great Gatsby, we think of his extravagant parties and larger than life attitude, this can all be translated into physical objects within a home.

A Parlor Palm is another large classic that really can make you feel transported into another era. A fuller version of its cousin the Bamboo Palm but similar in look and shape makes this plant a truly classic beauty. A true ode to an era throwback since it was actually one of the first plants to be cultured for use inside homes and places of business during Victorian times makes us wanted it in the Art Deco style even more. The Parlor Palm was also rated by NASA as one of the top 50 indoor plants that clean the air, which is another plus to this being an addition to your new home design. Both of these plants will leave your guest with a larger than life and lasting impression.

Do not forget when styling your home in the Art Deco fashion to use not only bold colors but a variety of geometric patterns, since this is truly a staple in the Art Deco design. This interior décor design is not for the faint hearted and words that should scuttle through your mind when designing should be bold, opulent, and daring. If you think in that mannerism you are guaranteed to knock the Art Deco style out of the park! Good luck!

Bohemian Interior Design Style: Welcome to the Jungle

Bohemian style is one of the more commonly known styles, but could you specifically explain what makes a space Boho to someone if you were asked to? Well, for those of you who answered “no” to that question, Bohemian style is inspired by the 60s and early 70s. The best thing to do is think Woodstock and believe us when we say it is making a hugeeee comeback. Some of the cultures this style draws on are Middle Eastern and Moroccan, and also is attributed to some South American vibes as well. It is all about being individualistic and thinking outside of the box that so frequently society forces designing into.

Color  Tones

Mixing soft colors and tones with a bold pattern is a huge part of this emerging interior design trend. Beiges, whites, and neutrals are the best base color for the Boho style since dark colors are not a huge player in this color scheme. Once you have your neutral color palette it is time to add in the unique statement pieces and bright colors that also contain patterns that can be attributed to the Middle Eastern, Moroccan, and South American cultures. Guess what great pop of color we are also thinking you should add to your bohemian vibe… You guessed it, PLANTZ!

Statement Pieces

Bohemian style always has a statement piece, make that statement piece your plant by picking a larger-than-life plant or one with a bold deep green color. The more plants the better for this style. You really want to feel like you are walking into a relaxing bungalow in this space, and when picking your plants for this Bohemian design the more the merrier is what we have to say! Give your guest all the jungle vibes when they enter into your Boho home and give into the plant craze that we are seeing all over right now. When it comes to plant colors for this interior design style, stick to your deep green plants or your traditional greens to give it that natural and earthy feel. Along with bold patterns, a trademark of the bohemian style is truly that jungle and natural feel that transcends you to a different head space when you walk into the room. Think feelings of serenity and peace.

When we talk jungle plants, one of the first that comes to mind is the White Bird of Paradise, this plant is large in size and gives all the jungle vibe making it truly adored by interior design professionals. It is known for its dramatic, long, arching leaves, so if you want a statement plant this is certainly your baby. Tropical feel and how large it is will really create the Jungalow vision of your dreams. We suggest getting the largest size possible for this plant!

Plant Colors

Okay, let’s talk color now. What is the best Boho color to draw on for a plant, well our preference is the Janet Craig. The Janet Craig is one of the most widely utilized plants cultivated for indoor use and is known to improve air quality in any room, but that is not the only reason this plant is great for your Boho look. This plant has a deep green color that really brings plants back to the classics. A variety of plants in this color will surely give you all the jungle vibes you would ever need, and it can come in two different forms. The first being the Janet Craig bush, which is a shorter and fuller version of the plant. The cane Janet Craig is taller and more slender, but both are great bohemian style options for your room.

Another suggestion would be Kentia Palms. Nothing feels more tropical then a palm. There are a multitude of size variation of the Kentia Palm, so you can surly take up plenty of empty space with this plant. With giant leaves like this one it is sure to be a showstopper in your Boho oasis and will really make you feel like you have entered a tropical paradise in a whole other world.

Plant Accessories

When picking out different plant accessories for this style there really is only one true Boho option… The rattan basket look or something braided and macramé are the staple of Bohemian looks. These two are consider the said “staple” because of their nod to simplicity but earthy textures, tones, and colors. Trust us when we say you cannot go wrong with a one of our Natural Seagrass Basket or our RARA AVES Seagrass Basket. Both of the baskets come in a multitude of colors and these types of baskets not only can be the home and protector of your plants soil, but commonly are used for storing blankets or any other form of storage you can think of. You will see these baskets in many of the examples you might find of the bohemian interior design style. This truly is the best avenue when picking a basket accessory for this particular home décor.

If you wanted to go a different route than the normal rattan basket or macramé style, there is always the option of a colorful porcelain and pottery with fun designs that can really accent any Boho vibe in a room to draw in one more pop of color to accompany your bright and vibrant plants. Pair them with matching throw pillows or blankets to really seal the deal. Pottery is a common addition to the Boho look due to its cultural roots with South America and Moroccan cultures.

All of those suggestions aside, the center of the Bohemian and Bungalow design truly is the earthy vibes that can be attributed to all the green thangs that we here at PLANTZ love so much. This style would not be complete without some greenery and the jungle vibe that is truly at the heart of this design, so pick out a plant and start styling around it. This plant truly will be the centerpiece for your room!

Modern Design With PLANTZ

What does it mean when we discus interior design terms such as Modern? Modern is a vast category that is essentially taking other stylistic choices and putting a Mid-Century spin on them. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing to decorate in a modern style. What you are attempting is the creation of an elevated and contemporary atmosphere with a sophisticated color palette. What people do not realize they can do with modern style, is utilize different plants to elevate to that level of sophistication and class that you see within many different modern designs in the everyday home.

Modern is all about staying current. The goal is to create a refined look without being too matchy matchy, but still having a cohesive trend. One way to go about this is to try going for light or soft colors within the room and then adding a fresh pop of color to draw some new attention to a boring corner or empty spot in the room. This can also include spicing up monotone furniture choices. In this case, we suggest doing that pop of color with a plant!

Plant Coloring

Plants do not have to be the classic green you are thinking of right in this moment. There are a variety of different plants that can add that pop of color you are looking for that are not your generic green.

For example, consider doing one of the Janet Craig Limelight plants. This is not your ordinary, run of the mill green… The Janet Craig Limelight plant will not only be a showstopper, but it will really add the brightness to any colorless room, giving it that twist from traditional and basic to modern and upscale. It is called Limelight for a reason and lime is the best color to describe it so it will surly make a strong statement.

If green still is not your thing, try a Dracena Marginata Colorama! This plant is actually pink. Yes, you heard us right… PINK! You want color?  You got it!  This plant is known for its pink and green leaves that are sure to leave your room the envy of all your friends. To keep on the trend of color, add different accent colors of pink around the room to match your pink plant to create a more cohesive feel and look to your room. Choose from throw pillows, to wall décor adding just the right amount of pinky tones across the board to change the game in modern design. This will for sure leave your space looking classy and chic. Just know that the Colorama will need moderate to high amounts of natural light to keep the color intensity up, so make sure to seek out a bright spot next to the window for this special plant.

Another option if you still want to stick with the green but need an extra oomph, try the Dracaena Marginata Kiwi plant. Similar to the Colorama, just differing in color, this one is known for its bright yellow and green leaves that are known to resemble the inside of a kiwi fruit and let’s face it… who doesn’t love a kiwi! Add this plant to the room if you want to add in more of your yellow accent colors to make your space upscaled but still fun and funky.

In the end you still can’t go wrong with your tried and true strong green color combinations as well, so any plant truly is a great addition to a modern home design. Lean on white and black as your base colors and avoid the creams and tans that we so commonly saw throughout homes in the 19th century, to elevate your home style to the modern category.

Pot Selections

Plants aside, you can still elevate your space with pots that you choose for your plant as well. When choosing pots, stick with something sleek. It is important to keep it monotone so that plant color can really be one of the biggest pops within the room and the true star of the show. We suggest integrating in your blacks and whites here and doing singular colored pots so your plant truly has its moment to shine.

A cylinder or something with sharp edges has a very modern and updated feel to it, while still remaining classic and sleek.

Natural Light

The next thing to consider when doing modern design is let in some strong natural light. Reasons why… It creates a more modern ambiance, you can see the crisp and clean contrasts between white, black, and color, when in some natural light and it is good for your plants too! The more light for most of these plants the better they will prosper.

Modern styles are all about creating a more expansive look to a room, so it is a good idea to keep plants in corners and away from center of the room to continue to add to that aesthetic expansive and minimalistic vibe. It also is important to keep them close to a window in the room as well. Something people commonly forget is that modern style also tends to be minimalistic.

The contrast of an earthy and natural plant against metals or light airy colors will really help elevate your modern vibe, because modern truly is all about juxtapose and contrast. You do not have to sacrifice your real plants for the upscale modern vibe of today, so consider that while restyling your new space and go with the authentic real plant route for your new modern style!
